Our Story

Three generations of the Gillespie family outside the Dixie Nutrition storefront
Three generations of the Gillespie family: Grandma Gillespie, her son Gil, and third-generation owner Greg.

In 1969, Grandma and Grandpa Gillespie opened the doors to a small storefront in St. George, Utah, with a simple idea: their neighbors deserved real, whole foods and someone who actually knew their name. Long before "health food" was a category on a shelf, the Gillespies were sourcing vitamins, supplements, and better-for-you groceries for a community that trusted them like family — because, more often than not, they were.

Grandpa Gillespie worked the counter and got to know every customer by name, remembering not just what they bought but why — a bad knee, a new baby on the way, a first 5K they were training for. Grandma kept the shelves stocked and the books balanced, and together they built something that felt less like a store and more like a second home for the people of southern Utah.

Word spread the old-fashioned way: one neighbor telling another. Over the decades, that little storefront grew into four Dixie Nutrition locations across St. George, Cedar City, Hurricane, and Mesquite — but the values never changed. We're still locally owned. We still believe in knowing our customers by name. And we still measure success the same way Grandma and Grandpa did: one visit, one neighbor, one small act of care at a time.

More than fifty years later, we're honored to carry on what they started — and grateful every day for the community that's grown with us since 1969.
